What is BOTOX?

Throughout the years, as we smile, frown, laugh, and otherwise move our faces, wrinkles begin to form in areas of repetitive movements. BOTOX, short for Botulinum Toxin, is commonly used in cosmetic and medical procedures to temporarily paralyze muscles by blocking nerve signals, reducing wrinkles and fine lines. In medical settings, it's employed to treat conditions like muscle spasms, migraines, and excessive sweating. BOTOX “freezes” and temporarily relaxes the underlying muscles for a refreshed and significantly rejuvenated look.

What Issues Can Be Treated with BOTOX?

One of the main benefits of BOTOX in Charlotte is the treatment takes just minutes. Often referred to as a “lunchtime treatment,” a BOTOX session can be completed in as little as 15 minutes. Common issues treated with BOTOX include:

  • Frown lines (between your eyebrows)
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Smoker’s lines (around the mouth)
  • Bunny lines (lines on the nose from wrinkling it)
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Neck wrinkles
  • Hooded eyes

What is a BOTOX Treatment Session Like?

During the days leading up to your appointment, you should avoid blood thinners or medication that could cause bruising, such as Aspirin, fish oil, and even alcohol. Other than that, no preparation is needed. You just show up as you are. Your injector will examine your face and recommend a dosage suitable for your aesthetic goals.

Next, they will apply a topical numbing cream and wait for it to work. Finally, your injector will inject your BOTOX using a very fine needle. Most people don’t experience any pain during the injections due to the numbing cream and the size of the needle. You may experience a slight stinging sensation.

Will My BOTOX Results Be Visible Immediately?

In a word, no. Your results will develop gradually over the next week or two. This means you can go back to work or any daily activities without any sudden noticeable changes. You can just go about your day and let your BOTOX do its work to refresh your look.

You may experience slight bruising and temporary swelling at the injection site, but this is not a very common side effect and doesn’t always occur. Any redness usually subsides within a few hours.

What are the Benefits of BOTOX?

Prevent Wrinkles Before They Occur

Not only can you use BOTOX to treat existing wrinkles, but you can also even use it as a preventative measure before wrinkles get a chance to develop. Known as “Baby BOTOX,” preventative BOTOX has become increasingly popular among clients in their 20s. By using tiny amounts of BOTOX, you can delay the onset of crow’s feet and forehead lines.

What is the Difference between BOTOX and Filler?

BOTOX is a cosmetic treatment that is used to smooth out wrinkles and give the face a more youthful appearance. On the other hand, fillers are used to add volume and plumpness to the lips, cheeks, and other areas of the face. In addition to enhancing the fullness of the face, fillers can also be used to smooth out wrinkles by filling in gaunt areas where creases have formed.

While BOTOX is generally used on the upper half of the face, fillers are typically used on the lower half of the face. Depending on your specific aesthetic goals and needs, Dr. Beck can recommend the best injectable treatment or combination of treatments for you.
